Voice Class with Dr. Celia Zambon Wollenberg
In this class, children will learn how to use their voices, how to sing together, how to narrate and introduce a song, and will work on writing lyrics and putting together a concert. Beginning with training to use their “head voice”, the children will learn songs and work together to decide how to introduce them and put them in order for a performance, and then work backwards to get in place all the elements of a performance. In the process they will learn basics about reading music, how to collaborate on creating a show, and how to bring out the best in all the participants to put on the best performance of the season!
Celia Zambon Wollenberg has a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Oklahoma. She is a voice teacher, a dictation coach (in multiple languages), and an acting coach. We are honored to have her work with our children and to complement our high-quality music program. Celia will coordinate her voice class with our music teacher, Dr. Anne-Valerie Brittan.
Celia is an artist at Cimarron Opera. Cimarron Opera brings their Scholastic Opera Tour, presenting high quality, child-friendly opera to 10,000 children in Oklahoma every year. This program at Children’s House is the first time the Cimarron offers small-group classes during the academic year, and it is the first time they are bringing their teaching to children as young as ours. Many nationally recognized voice artists got their start at the Cimarron Opera, which was founded in 1975 by the internationally renown performer Thomas Carey, who was by then a professor at the University of Oklahoma.
